Craniosacral
Therapy
CST is a
gentle holistic therapy that assists the
body’s natural ability to regulate and
repair itself.
Using light,
skillful touch, especially on the skull,
spine, and sacrum, the practitioner deeply
listens to subtle movement patterns to
locate and gently release any restrictions
present in the client’s body.
As
restrictions, holding patterns or traumas
are released from the tissue memory, body
fluids (i.e. blood, lymph, and cerebrospinal
fluid) are able to circulate more freely,
and optimal functioning of the nervous and
skeletal systems is enhanced.
This free
movement revitalizes and strengthens the
body's intrinsic healing forces, dissipating
pain and restoring the natural state of
vitality and to calm the person’s whole being.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Craniosacral system?
-
The
craniosacral system is comprised of the
cranium or skull, the sacrum (tailbone),
spinal column and the surrounding
interrelated tissues and fluids. The CS
system is also directly related to the
network of muscle, fascia, tendons,
ligaments which surround and support all
of the structures of our body.

What is Craniosacral motion, and how is it
related to health?
-
Over 100
years ago an American osteopath named
Dr. William Sutherland discovered subtle
movements of the cranial bones and their
relationship to tide-like pulsations
within the tissues and fluids throughout
the body. His further research revealed
that these intrinsic movements are a
direct expression of the health of the
system, and are inextricably linked with
a person’s physical, mental and
emotional well being. TOP
What causes restrictions of movement in the
CS system?
-
Restrictions of movement in the CS
system can be caused by past illness or
physical/emotional trauma (such as
accidents, slips and falls, surgeries,
sports injuries, and abuse-physically,
sexually or verbally) that did not
release from the cellular memory of the
body. They can also form due to habitual
holding patterns due to stress, disease,
and repetitive strain. TOP
How is CST Different From Other Therapies
-
CranioSacral Therapy accesses the body
at a much deeper level than other
therapies. Where other therapies treat
only symptoms, CranioSacral Therapy
rapidly relieves symptoms while
naturally accessing the source of the
problem, whether physical or emotional
pain. TOP
How can I expect to feel during and after a
CST session?
-
The work
is very soothing and relaxing in nature.
During the session you may develop a
sense of self-awareness of your emotions
or the subtle movements in your body. As
your body is rebalancing and trying to
establish a new equilibrium you may
experience shifts in your system. It is
not uncommon to temporarily feel worse
before feeling better. Physical releases
are often experienced as muscle
twitching or as a reduction in pain and
increase in mobility. It is also
possible that you may experience a
release of emotion such as sadness or
joy. These shifts can occur during a
session, and often can continue during
the following 24-48 hours.

How Soon Will I Experience Relief?
-
Most
clients experience some improvement
during the first treatment. Depending on
severity, the symptoms and underlying
problems are often relieved in four to
twelve session. Treatments typically
last 60-90 minutes. TOP
Can CST help me?
-
CST
can be helpful to people with almost
any condition, from those who are
experiencing acute painful
conditions due to a recent injury,
to those experiencing chronic
problems. Common complaints that can
be addressed through CST include TMJ
dysfunction (or jaw joint tension,
pain, clicking and grinding),
headaches and migraines, back, neck
and/or facial pain, sinus
congestion/ pressure, and various
hormonal disturbances. Increased
well being and deepened calm are
some of the benefits that can be
experienced from receiving CST.
